Lessons

ISR Swim Instruction is for children 6 months to 6 years with all one-on-one instruction.  Lessons are conducted 5 days a week (Monday through Friday), at a maximum of 10 minutes a day, for approximately 6 weeks.

Each child has their own lesson time daily.

SKill sets and programs

What your child will learn with ISR Self-Rescue depends on their age and developmental readiness, but in all cases, at minimum, your child will learn to roll over onto their backs to float, rest, and breathe and maintain this position until help arrives.

Because over 86% of drownings occur when children are fully clothed, all ISR students practice using their skills in clothes so they know how it would feel should they find themselves in water during a non-swimming time.

ROLLBACK TO FLOAT

Babies as young as 6 months old are taught how to rotate to a floating position from any presentation and rest and breathe in that float until help can arrive.

SWIM/FLOAT/SWIM

Toddlers and young children are taught how to swim short distances with their faces in the water, then rotate to a float to rest and breathe, then flip back over to continue swimming. This swim/float/swim sequence can be repeated until they find a point of safety.

REFRESHERS

After completing their ISR Self-Rescue skillset, refresher lessons are suggested every 6 to 9 months as children grow and develop rapidly from infants to toddlers and young children. This development process represents improved strength, coordination, and a more finely tuned cognitive ability. In accordance with this growth, their skills will need to be adjusted to their new height and weight. Refreshers are highly recommended to refine their skills as they’ve most likely hit developmental milestones since the last time they’ve seen us. They are scheduled for 2-3 weeks, five days per week.

MAINTENANCE

After completing their ISR Self-Rescue skillset, maintenance lessons help students maintain their skills and confidence throughout the year and can indicate readiness for skill advancement. They are single-day lessons that should be scheduled at intervals recommended by the instructor, ranging from twice per week to once a month.

There is no such thing as "drown-proof". Please always use proper supervision.
